Résumé
Tara Schiro
Focus: Freelance editing for agents, publishing companies and writers seeking assistance in content and copy editing as well as manuscript evaluation and critique for non-fiction titles.
Long-term Goals: To develop an on-going relationship with writers who have a desire to improve their skills beyond the scope of the current project; to be a trusted partner/editor in the overall career of a writer.
Strengths: Thesis control, tangential plot lines, narrative voice, character integrity, structure coherency, consistency. During feedback, I often challenge the author with questions rather than just give them the answers. I help them see what they cannot.

WORKS IN PROGRESS
“Propose This: The Steps You Need to Take Even if You Are Self-Publishing" (temporary title), Tara Schiro, 2008. This book focuses on the book proposal questions as a starting point before writing begins, even if you are self-publishing and think you won't need to write a proposal. Think again! Topics such as Who's Your Audience?, What Shelf Are You On (in the bookstore)?, Books Talk (The On-going Conversation on the Shelf), Credibility as a Self-Published Author, etc. will stress the importance of the proposal, no matter what your end goal is. The question asked by first time book writers, "Where do I start?" is answered with the end result in mind, preventing aimless wandering through pages of multiple themes, inconsistent structures and meandering viewpoints. Highly planned marketing strategies will eventually fail if your book doesn't deliver on its promise. Find out what readers expect and plan to meet their expectations before the writing begins.
“No Arms, No Legs, No Problem!” Tara Schiro and Bob Lujano, 2008. This book is an autobiography of Bob Lujano, a quadriplegic amputee. Although his arms and legs were cut off when he was eight years old, Bob now holds a masters degree in sports medicine and is a world-class athlete; he won a bronze medal in the 2004 Paralympics, competed in world championships, and won several national championships for Quad Rugby. He lives alone in his own house, drives his own car, and works at the Lakeshore Foundation where he trains newly disabled children how to be self sufficient. His mantra, ‘no arms, no legs, no problem,’ is not only a message of hope to the disabled community, but crashes stereotypes to show that the disabled can be a valuable and productive member of society among the able bodied.
PRAISE FOR TARA SCHIRO
Linda Sivertsen, West Coast Editor of Balance magazine and award winning author of Lives Charmed: Intimate Conversations with Extraordinary People: "When I'm too close to my own work and need an expert second opinion, I call Tara. She cuts to the chase and asks me all those wonderfully irritating questions I've been avoiding, making the best choice infinitely more obvious."
Dr. Douglas Whittle, Director, Lowcountry Pastoral Counseling Center: "Often when a writer finishes their work, it is pen down and moving on to the next creative piece. Thoughts of the editing process become nothing more than crossed T's and dotted I's. For Tara Schiro, her editorial practice challenges the author to pick up the pen again and break through the commonplace to the brilliant. However difficult the writing and editorial process, the triumph of good becoming great is worth the creative partnership."
Sylvia Carey, MFT, SFVCAMFT, author of four books, many magazine articles, and writing coach through http://www.therapistswhowrite.com/, "Tara Schiro has been editing for our professional association newsletter for well over a year and I have always found her to be a thorough professional."
Mark Frankle, LMFT, Clinical Editor, Connections: "As the content editor, Tara Schiro's contribution has elevated the quality our publication. Tara has helped the writers hone their ideas and in turn, create quality articles. As the Clinical Editor, I am grateful for having had the opportunity to work with Tara. Her work, particularly her attention to detail, is always of the highest caliber. I would highly recommend her to anyone in need of her professional editing services."
Jaylene Armstrong, Artist, Profile Article Subject: "Tara, Wow and Wow! I just saw the ELITE article and it was wonderful. I was so pleased and happy with what you wrote...You did a great job in presenting >>>'WHO I AM.' THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH TARA!"
Judy Harris, Psychotherapist, Profile Article Subject: "Wow! You did a great job- I like that person you write about and she sounds pretty lucid too! I can't thank you enough for "getting me" and having the talent to communicate it."
Gary Saenger, President/Founder, Saenger Associates: "Tara is unique with her writing skills - she listens very well and then puts pen to paper; she is a great partner for Saenger Associates. I believe we were her first client - I'm VERY pleased."
